Putting on the Mind of Christ - "An Introduction to the Science and Art of Discernment" with Fr Iain Radvan SJ

About the Seminar

Discernment of spirits is the interpretation of what St. Ignatius Loyola called the “motions of the soul.” These interior movements consist of thoughts, imaginings, emotions, inclinations, desires, feelings, repulsions, and attractions. Spiritual discernment of spirits involves becoming sensitive to these movements, reflecting on them, and understanding where they come from and where they lead us. God uses these natural movements to guide us in choosing actions that conform more to God’s desires for our personal lives, and for the good of all creation. This day’s seminar will introduce you to the science and art of discernment. It will consist of some input by Fr Iain, some time for prayer and reflection, and time to share with others.

Introducing the Presenter

Fr Iain Radvan joined the Society of Jesus in 1984. After ordination he worked in several Jesuit schools as a chaplain and teacher (languages, English literature, and history). In 2013 he took up study in the ministry of spirituality and became the Director of Campion Centre of Ignatian Spirituality. He is now doing higher research on the transformative nature of the Spiritual Exercises through the Sydney College of Divinity though he continues to practise as a spiritual director and ministry supervisor. When not at his desk or listening to hearts, Iain enjoys sailing, gardening and spending time in Nature.
